Questions

What is planning poker?

Planning poker, also called scrum poker or pointing poker, is a way for agile teams to estimate work. Everyone picks a card with their estimate in secret, then all the cards are revealed at the same time. Big differences start a conversation, and nobody anchors on the first number said out loud. Read more about planning poker on Wikipedia.

Is this planning poker tool really free?

Yes. There is no paid plan, no trial, no sign-up and no ads. Start a table and share the link.

Do my teammates need an account?

No. Teammates open the table's link and type a name. There are no accounts, emails or passwords.

Do we need to install anything?

No. It's browser-based, so there's nothing to download or install. Start a table and share its link in Slack, Microsoft Teams, your video call's chat, or wherever your team talks.

How many people can join a table?

Up to 40 people can sit at one table.

Which estimation scales can we use?

Three decks: Fibonacci story points (0, ½, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 40), T-shirt sizes (XS to XXL) and powers of 2 (0 to 64). Every deck also has a ? card and a coffee-break card.

Fibonacci or T-shirt sizes: which deck should we use?

Fibonacci story points suit teams that track velocity: the numbers add up across a sprint, and the widening gaps reflect how uncertainty grows with size. T-shirt sizes suit rough, early estimates such as roadmap items, where a shared sense of size matters more than a number. Powers of 2 work like Fibonacci with bigger jumps. You can switch deck at any time; switching clears the current votes.

How do we run a remote estimation session?

Share the table link at the start of your call. For each user story, read it out and answer questions, then everyone votes in private and someone reveals. If the votes are far apart, ask the highest and lowest voters to explain their thinking, then vote again. Finished rounds are listed under the table with everyone's votes, so you keep a record of what you agreed.

Does it work for remote teams and on phones?

Yes. It runs in any modern browser on laptops, tablets and phones, and votes update live for everyone at the table, wherever they are.

How long does a table last?

A table stays open after everyone leaves, so the same link works again later. A table nobody uses for about 10 days is deleted, along with its names, votes and history.
