Sprint capacity calculator
Work out how much your team can take on this sprint. Add everyone's days off and how much of their time goes to the sprint, and get the team's capacity in days, hours and story points.

How the capacity is calculated
For each person, take the working days they are around for and scale by how much of their time goes to this team's sprint:
(working days − days off) × availability
Adding that up for everyone gives the team's available person-days. Nobody spends a whole day on sprint work: there are meetings, reviews, support questions and interruptions. The focus factor accounts for that:
team capacity = available person-days × focus factor
Multiply by the hours in a working day to get the same capacity in hours, if your team plans tasks in hours.
Choosing a focus factor
A focus factor of 60–80% is a common starting point. Better still, measure your own: divide the work your team actually finished last sprint by the time it had available, and use that next time. A team that keeps missing its commitments usually has a focus factor that is set too high.
From capacity to story points
Story points measure size, not time, so capacity doesn't convert to points directly. What does work is scaling last sprint's result by how this sprint's capacity compares:
suggested points = points finished last sprint × (capacity this sprint ÷ capacity last sprint)
For example, a team that finished 30 points with 40 focused days, and has 32 focused days this sprint because of a public holiday, might plan for about 24 points. Treat it as a starting point for the planning conversation, not a target.
